composting.

In our house, we are composters. But don't let your thoughts get carried away as we have a lot to learn about composting. A few years ago for my birthday or mother's day, (I can't remember which) I asked for a compost pile. My husband was amused but pulled through and we have been composting on and off ever since.

We had a small compost issue when the rains came a few years ago and filled our compost with water and we ended with this disgusting mess....but we are at it again and have been for some time.

I have to say, I LOVE the idea of composting. I love the feeling of reducing what we put into the landfill vs. what we put back into the earth (literally). One of the easiest ways for us to get our compost from the kitchen to our pile in the backyard is by keeping a little makeshift pile on the kitchen counter and dumping it every few days when it fills up into our main pile in the back yard. Our biggest problem with composting at our house is our dogs-who also enjoy compost. I always know when they have been intimate with our compost pile when I look out the window to see banana peels strewn about the patio and yard. It does get annoying.

If you are considering composting, you should just jump in. We are definitely not pros by any means but there is no reason not to start and learn as you go.
